ABOUT

About me

Zbirka is an online service for owners and buyers of art who want a clearer answer before selling, buying, advertising or accepting an offer.

Zbirka is founded by Marin, a collector with extensive experience in the art market, both as a buyer and seller. His personal collecting focus is primarily on 19th-century and older art, which is where a more focused specialisation has developed.

Marin lives in Iceland with his long-term Icelandic partner and their daughter. The combination of personal collecting experience, life in Iceland and continuous observation of the European art market shapes Zbirka’s discreet, internationally oriented approach.

Zbirka combines daily monitoring of domestic and international art markets, practical collecting experience, and collaboration and contacts with conservators, restorers and art historians.

The aim is to offer owners and collectors a clear, discreet and realistic opinion on an Artwork, its market potential and possible next steps.

Art Appraisal Report and Advisory

01

What I do

From the photographs and information provided, I prepare an Art Appraisal Report — a concise, practical and preliminary market opinion that includes an indicative Market Value, a recommended sale price, comments on visible marks, signature and condition, and a recommendation for the most suitable route to sale.

Zbirka can also assist with buying art by monitoring offers and auctions, commenting on an Artwork's price and condition, identifying possible risks, and advising before a purchase. In some cases, I can also help find suitable works according to the client's preferences, budget and area of interest.

02

When Zbirka can help

01When you want to know the indicative Market Value of an artwork.
02When you do not know where or how to sell an artwork.
03When you have received an offer to buy and would like a second opinion.
04When you want to buy an Artwork but are unsure about the price, condition or seller.
05When you are looking for a particular type of work, artist, period or style.
06When you need initial guidance on auctions, transport, provenance or export documentation.

03

What I do not do

01I do not buy artworks.
02I do not pressure clients to sell or buy.
03I do not confirm authenticity from photographs alone.
04I do not prepare official appraisals, expert witness reports, tax valuations or insurance valuations.
05I do not issue export permits or provide legal opinions.
06I do not charge for submissions or Inquiries where I cannot provide a useful opinion.

My approach

I approach every artwork as an object that may have market, historical, family or decorative value. When selling, the best advice may simply be to advertise locally. At other times, it makes sense to contact an auction house, gallery or specialist. And sometimes it is best not to sell until further checks have been completed.

When buying, the aim is to find a work that makes sense for the client aesthetically, financially and practically. This may mean monitoring auctions, reviewing available offers, comparing prices or advising when it is better not to buy.

Zbirka is a first step towards a clearer decision — whether you want to sell, buy or simply understand an artwork better.

GET STARTED

Find out what you have — or find what you are looking for.

Submit photographs for an Art Appraisal Report, or send an Inquiry if you need advice on selling, buying, auctions, transport, provenance or other practical steps.

This is a preliminary, informative Market Value opinion prepared from the photographs and information supplied by the client. It is not an official appraisal, expert witness report, confirmation of authenticity, tax or insurance valuation, or a guarantee of a sale price.

Advice relating to buying, selling, transport, export or documentation is informative and does not replace the work of authorised specialists, lawyers, conservators, expert witnesses or competent institutions.
